Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate activities of crew engaged in operating and maintaining engines, boilers, deck machinery, and electrical, sanitary, and refrigeration equipment aboard ship. Inspect engines and other equipment. Stand engine-room watch, observing that lubricants and water levels are maintained in machinery and load on generators is within limits. Start engines to propel ship and regulates engines and power transmission to control speed of ship. Order crew to repair or replace defective parts of engines and other equipment.
